It's a great moment for your friend as it is for you because it's his wedding and you have been chosen the best man for the first time ever. Congratulations. But if you are still not enjoying the moment it must be the speech that you need to give at the wedding reception.

Well, you are not the lone best man who has to deal with this problem. Anybody who struggles when it comes to giving a speech in public would be skeptical of making one. However, it's a situation you can avoid. You must make a speech and that's exactly why you should get preparing for it - the earlier the better. It's good to see that you have taken your first step already. It always help if you do some research to get the ideas for your speech.

Don't worry about making your best man speech funny or light-hearted at the moment. First get the outline of your speech done. There are a lot of things common to all best man speeches. The introduction lines, telling something about the groom and the bride, sharing a couple of interesting facts or anecdotes about the groom (or the couple) and then ending the speech by toasting the couple - that's what your best man speech in a nutshell.

Now if you have enough sense of humor your speech would automatically become funny. Humor makes any speech sound better - so, even if you happen to be a serious guy, it's time to open up a bit and present something that would amuse the audience. Remember wedding a happy occasion and everybody loves to enjoy their time here.

There are certain “Do's and Don'ts” related to such best man toasts but they are so obvious that unless you do something really weird you are not going to break the rules for sure. I think it's needless to say that you must be polite and must not hurt anybody's feelings while making your speech and stay sober until you've given the speech and so on.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that once you have got the speech written you could automatically deliver it fluently at the reception party. Getting your speech written and not practicing enough is as disastrous as not getting the speech written at all. If you are an average speaker, believe me, you aren't going to remember all the points and your speech would end it disaster. Practicing the speech is the ultimate key to accomplish it.

If this is the first time ever you are about to make a wedding speech at a wedding, you might find it a bit challenging especially when you are unsure of your public speaking skills. But you must not procrastinate and keep from preparing for the speech for the speech because not doing so is going to make your problem graver.

Write the speech, spend some time and become familiar with it and you will be pleasantly surprised to see you progressing. I know several best men and bridesmaids and bride's fathers who kept away from writing the speech simply because they were so afraid of making a speech in public they were even reluctant to give it a try which starts with getting the speech written. What they didn't realize is they would need to make the speech no matter what and when it comes to making wedding speeches, if you fail to get ready for it you are actually getting ready to fail.

So, it's better to get started and this article will hopefully give you some inspiration.

Depending on how you're related to the couple you would need to give your speech. Traditionally the best man (who is usually a friend or the brother of the groom), the maid of honor (the sister or a friend of the bride), the father of the bride gives their respective wedding speeches at the reception. Apart from that, the groom himself and sometimes the bride would also want to make speeches.

If you happen to be the best man, you would probably want your best man speech to be funny. But don't make the task difficult worrying too much about it. You need to write a bare bone speech at the first place. Later you could work to make it humorous by including some funny anecdotes and the likes.

Same thing is true about maid of honor toasts. Get your speech written at the earliest. It will give you more time to work with it. Once you become accustomed to your speech it would become easier to tweak and make it amusing.

On the other hand, father of the bride speech tends to be emotional. But that's exactly why you need to have enough humor in it to make it light-hearted. Remember a speech that reveals the sense of humor of the speaker is bound to be successful.

If you find it difficult to breed ideas for your speech, there are several online resources to guide you through the process. For example, if you happen to be a best man you could start by checking BestManspeechEssentials.com.

Finally remember that worrying about your speech and going through how-to guides and sample speeches doesn't going to help you unless and until you take action. So, why not get started right away? I am sure you'll be able to pull of a great wedding speech.
